Associate Degree Programs are offered by three major study destinations, USA, UK and Australia. Many universities are offering these programs in different streams and many students from different parts of the world are showing their interest towards the program. An associate degree is equivalent to the first two years of a four-year degree program. It is the lowest in the hierarchy of postsecondary academic degrees offered in these countries. Usually associate degrees will be offered by the affiliated colleges at universities. Australia added associate degree to the Australian Qualifications Framework. This title was given to more academically focused advanced diploma courses. However, very few courses yet use the new title.

Why Many Students Are Choosing Associate Degree Programs:
The Associate degree offer several advantages for the students pursuing the programs. The following are some of them:

  • An associate degree can be completed in approximately two years.
  • Many skilled professions and high-paying jobs require an associate degree in a specialized field.
  • An associate degree is much cheaper than a bachelor's degree.
  • Most cities have two year colleges situated conveniently so that you will most likely have more associate degree options.
  • Associate degree holders are now more sought after than ever before due to the increased favorable reputations of many community and junior colleges.

Types of Associate Degrees:
Typically associate degrees are categorized into two types:

  • Transfer Degrees: It forms the foundation of bachelor’s degree that enables students to complete their general education requirements prior to transfer to a four year university program. Usually these programs include, Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of Science, Associate of Fine Arts and other relevant courses.
  • Career/Professional Degrees: These associate degree courses are awarded for the students willing to undertake a professional oriented study program in order to study more course work in their program area. These programs include, Associate in Applied Science, Associate in Industrial Technology, Associate in Business Administration, Associate in Business Administration, Associate in Occupational Studies and as such.

I've attended one year at my current community college and my grades have been very low. I was wondering... if I could start over at a new community college and forget my past grades. Would my previous bad grades from the 1st community college be looked at if I wanted to transfer to a USC later?
